  The Rainbow Myth

  we've all heard the bibles' explanation of how the rainbow first appeared.

  now i not an expert in science but i believe rainbows have occured every since since light and moisture in the air have existed.. that would be way before the alledged global flood.. my dictionary describes a rainbow asan arch of prismatic colors found in the sky oposite the sun and caused by refraction, reflection and dispersion of light in raindrops.. my dictionary describes rain this way the condensed vapor.

  of the atmosphere falling in drops.. here's watchtowers definition of rain from the insite book page 728,. a vital part of the cycle by which water that rises into the atmosphereb as vapor from land and water surface of the globe and falls to the ground.....at an early point in the history of the preparation of the earth "god had not made it rain upon the earth "but" a mist would go up from the earth and it watered the entire surface of the ground.gen2:5,6;1:9-13. hmm,sounds like rain to me..   yes, thanks Alan, we can always rely on you for the complete picture.
  I thought that actually I was onto something new, that I had found there was no rain but rivers in Gen 2. But maybe I'm over-sensationalising that point, when in fact the whole account is flawed.

  please help me out a bit with this.. jws, as a religion, are taught to live peacably.

  they do not go to war nor will they generally support it.. now, if i were to play the role of an apologist, i think i would just keep hamering on this point.

  "catholic killing catholic and protestant killing protestant" was such a great phrase and ties in so nicely with johm 13:35. now, let me play devils advocate and hear some rebuttals.

  OK - I agree it is a minority problem, but when you talk to someone who has been brought up in a violent Jehovah's Witness family who's two faced step father is still a good standing ministerial servant and you are disfellowshipped for a slip up, you're bound to get a slightly emotional response.
  OK, HERE'S HOW I STAND.
  With regard to the peacefulness and uniqueness of the witnesses, I would say, in general, the majority are, however, the great majority, collectively show little understanding of THE SPIRIT OF THE LAW OF LOVE, and perpetrate INSTITUTIONAL HATRED for their "enemies".

  just stick to the idea of whether or not the JWs are truly peacable and how unique they are

  surely peacable starts with your own brothers and sisters and family memers?
  Also what is this basis for 1% or 60,000. Have you done a survey or are you just relying on brothers that come forward to tell you they've been beating their wives up.

  thanks karen, and welcome a-board.
  waiting, I knew exactly where you were coming from, in a way I'm playing devil's advocate too.
  I'm not sure I believe all of the bible, I'm an evolutionist. But I was kind of asking, "why do the witnesses say there was no rain before the flood when the bible says there was rivers?".
  The thing is, as karen points out, there are 101 reasons why Genesis is wrong and the witnesses seem to have a blind spot when it comes to scientific evidence such as geology.
  Some other research showed that rain dissolves more carbon dioxide than the process of photosynthesis and was essential in bringing down carbon dioxide levels in order for life to begin.

  Jehovah's Witnesses and arguing...

  one thing i have noticed, both in my own reportoire of personal habits and in those of others posting on xjw boards, is the tendency to argue.. i contrast this to a few other boards i've frequented on a variety of topics.

  obviously there are disagreements, but xdub boards can get really crazy at times.. there is this tendancy for xjw's to argue like rabid dogs; hell, it's not just the x's who do it, current jw's are just as bad.. this is over and above the normal 'spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard' atmosphere that often prevails on discussion boards (although if you ever want to see a really polite board i suggest you go to a lifestyle bdsmer's board!!)..

  are we all psychos?.

  I know what you mean, just after mrmoe left the chat room yesterday, I got into a huge argument with robdar.
  Then mega joined in.
  I was getting told to inject heroin and go back to the kingdom hall, all kinds of stuff like that.
  I don't know how it started, they blamed it on you mrmoe, but I don't know.
  I think sometimes actual Jehovah's Witnesses come on here with the intention of stiring sh*t.

  imagine this.. a little child,about 3 or 4, sitting there, looking around.... he leans over and sees his shoe is untied, he looks up at his parent who doesn't seem to care much, almost falling asleep, so he leans over and ties it all by himself for the first time!

  he smiles proudly and looks up at his parent and tuggs on their shirt.

  the parent looks down with anger and pinches the little boy on the arm real hard.
